Best Glamping Experience in Jamaica at Great Huts Resort
For me, the meaning of a break from the hustle and bustle of life has always been a face to face encounter with lakes, shores, brooks, trails and vistas. Whenever I get free time, a great outdoor vacation is always at the forefront of my mind. No matter how long my vacation be, I always plan to spend it under the stars and sun. Yes, it’s true, I’ve been a die-hard fan of camping and I’ve setup my tent in almost every popular camping site of the world. But as I got married and had kids, the idea of camping seemed to be too uncomfortable for them. This is when someone introduced me to glamping. Basically, glamping is similar to camping with glamor and luxury added to it. It is not as raw as camping.
I had been planning for camping in Jamaica for years, but the luxury needs of my family resisted me from booking the tickets. While I was doing my research, I came across this great looking resort, named Great Huts Resort, which seemed to be a perfect mix of natural beauty, artistry, and luxury. Set amidst a forest landscape, it is built on cliffs overlooking the Eastern Caribbean. So, while I was already planning a vacation to Jamaica, this resort inspired me to pack my bags, book my tickets, and head on.

When I reached Great Huts, Jamaica, I instantly realized that here, glamping is going to be a stunning mixture of nature and luxury. While staying there, we experienced completely unique, untamed parts of the country without sacrificing our comfort. We got a chance to immerse ourselves in the Jamaican local culture and witness nature. A perfect fusion of camping and glamour, glamping became our favorite form of experiencing the awe-inspiring local beauty of Jamaica. At Great Huts, our camp was much more than just a nice tent. Here I’m going to share my glamping experience in Jamaica with Great Huts Resort.
High-End Facilities

First of all, when we entered the resort, we were amazed to see the artwork all over the place. Later, we came to know that they were authentic African and Jamaican art collection, and the resort has over 250 of them. There were fans and air conditioners in the royal rooms, and we were allowed to use the beach, meditation areas, and cliff-side pool of the resort. There was complimentary Wi-Fi connectivity all over the resort, with the best signals in the lobby area. Cable TV was also available in the lobby area and the Pharoah’s Bar of the resort. They gave us a choice to select from an extensive library of books and films.
Complimentary breakfast was included in our package, but they offered us a customized vegan and meal plan menu on request. They have a special aromatherapy room, in which you can spend some time and relax on request. Private in-hut massage is also available on request. As me and my wife are strict yoga followers, they also made yoga mats available for us when we requested them. Seasonal yin, power, and healing yoga services are also provided by the resort, but we could not enjoy them in the season we visited there. In the night, when mosquitos wanted to suck all our blood out, we requested them to do something, and they came with an all-natural Blue Mountain mosquito spray.
The best time to book Great Huts Resort is during the weekend, as they organize Reggae, Jamaican Dance and African Drumming sessions every Saturday in the night. During these sessions, you will get a chance to enjoy the real culture and beauty of Jamaicans and Africans. Sundays are vegan Sundays and are celebrated as Yoga Sundays. We did not rent it, but there was an Africana House available for private rental, that also included a sun deck, master kitchen, as a Lotus Pool. The staff members of the resort were extremely friendly and co-operative, and were always ready to help us in every way possible. They made arrangements for all our activities and transportation facilities, and they also offered us curated Kingston tours.
Accolades
While staying at the resort, we came to know that Lyn Mettler from the US News and World Report has voted it as one of the top 30 best treehouse hotels in the world. Travel Channel has also voted it as the most unique resort experience in Jamaica. It has also gained a certificate of excellence 2018 from TripAdvisor.
Activities
There are a lot of activities that you can enjoy within the Great Huts resort itself. However, you may move a bit around and enjoy some outside activities as well, for which the resort can make all the arrangements. Even if you plan a trip to Blue Mountains or to the Bob Marley Museum of Kingston, Great Huts will arrange it for you. The wide range of activities that you can enjoy on the island include holistic yoga, Thai, deep tissue or Swedish massage, surfing at the Boston Beach, cliff jumping, snake trail walking, African cultural show, and others.
Outside the resort also, there are lots of activities that you would love to participate in, including a visit to the Frenchman's Cove Beach, Winnifred Beach, or Somerset Falls, Rio Grande rafting, swimming at the Blue Lagoon, snorkeling, scuba diving, cave spelunking, bird watching, climbing Reach Falls, and others.
There are several types of huts that you can book with Great Huts Resort, each having a different type of décor and facilities. The rooms have been classified into four categories:
1. Royal African- Luxurious rooms with air conditioning
2. Safari Chic- Fully furnished and well-decorated huts and tree houses created by artists of Jamaica with unmatched artwork and craftsmanship
3. Comfortably Rustic- Stylish and comfortable
4. Cozy Camping- Suitable for budget-minded guests, affordable, permanent huts, shared bathroom facilities
Some of my favorite rooms were Mandinka, Fig Tree House, Almond Tree House, Queen Nyabinghi, Cherry Goat, Granary, and Bamboo Garden.
So, if you are planning to spend a glamping vacation in Jamaica, then nothing can be better than the Great Huts Resort. Strategically located with high-end facilities, they will do their best to make your trip memorable.
